„Warsaw. Phoenix from the ashes” is the exhibition that was prepared by the Warsaw Rising Museum and it has already been showed in several cities in Japan. On 12 May 2025 it has been opened for public at the Tokyo University for Foreign Studies by Paweł Ukielski, Deputy Head of the Warsaw Rising Museum; Nobuo Haruna, the TUFS President and Paweł Milewski, the Polish Ambassador to Japan.
The official opening of the exhibition gathered students and the university’s authorities. “The story that we unveil with this exhibition is moving in particular today, in the world that is not peaceful, where the world of tyranny and crime challenged again the freedom and sovereignty of the countries and nations”, said Paweł Ukielski. “Our exhibition is, however, a message of hope, the hope for Ukraine, Syria and all the countries and nations that are suffering the way Poland did 80 years ago. Today, Warsaw is a beautiful, modern and dynamic city, a Phoenix that rose from the ashes. I am deeply convinced that it will be also the story for Mariupol, Aleppo and all the other cities that have been destroyed in the recent years. They have to be brought to life so that evil never wins”, added the Deputy Head.
Since 2023 the exhibition „Warsaw. Phoenix from the Ashes” was visited by 10,000 Japanese from Hiroshima, Osaka, Sapporo and Tsuruga. The TUFS is a special place for presenting the exhibition about the Warsaw Rising.
The TUFS is a university that plays an important role in research and education when it comes to the world’s languages, cultures and international problems. As an institution it is active in the social dimension taking part in the projects that support the inclusion among the society members. Through this lens, the exhibition “Warsaw. Phoenix from the ashes”, presented in the premises of the university, has an exceptional meaning. It allows students, especially those interested in history, culture and international relations, to get a profound understanding of the dramatic events of the Warsaw Rising and their impact on the afterwar order in Europe. For younger Japanese it is not only a chance to learn more about a lesser known region of the world, but also an opportunity to reflect on the universal values such as freedom, resistance against the oppression and the reconstruction after the doom.
Soon, the Warsaw Rising Museum plans to open the exhibition in Yokohama and Nagasaki.
