The Eugeniusz Lokajski Photo Competition “Remembrance Caught on Camera”

The Warsaw Rising, the key event in the Polish history, is interwoven in the memory of Polish people. To mark its 81st anniversary, the Warsaw Rising Museum invites you to participate in the 7th edition of the Eugeniusz Lokajski Photo Competition “Remembrance Caught on Camera”. We kindly invite all those who want to express their respect, emotions and feelings via photography, no matter the age, equipment or experience they have.

Preserve the memory lest it fades away

The objective is to capture the atmosphere of the commemorations of the Warsaw Rising in a personal, creative and dedicated way. We do not impose a given place or style, the pictures may be taken during official commemorations but they may also document small events such as concerts, community actions, theme meetings or symbolic gestures. Significantly, the photographs may be taken anywhere all over the globe.

The slogan of the 7th edition, namely: “Take a photo. Show the world that you remember!” encourages to take part in the commemorations and share our perspective by the means of photography. No matter whether you are a professional photographer or you take photos with your smartphone – your perspective matters!

The competition lasts from 25 July to 7 August 2025. Each participant may send:

  • Max. 6 photographs (each person can submit up to 6 photographs – SINGLE PHOTO category ) or
  • Max. 2 photo reports (up to 6 photographs each – PHOTO REPORT category).

Valuable prizes and prestigious jury

You can win in two categories: single photo and photo report. In addition, the jury will select the Grand Prix winner of the competition, and there will also be a public internet award - everyone will be able to vote for their favourite photo.

  • Grand Prix – 10 000 PLN; 
  • First place – Fotoforma voucher worth 5 000 PLN for Canon products, 
  • Second place – Fotoforma voucher worth 3 000 PLN for Canon products, 
  • Third place – Sigma Foto Polska voucher worth 2 000 PLN, 
  • Public Vote award – Sigma Foto Polska voucher worth 2 000 PLN.

Warsaw Airlift 1944: Brotherhood-in-arms between the Western Allies and Poles
On 3 August 1944 the Allied command decided to send Liberators and Halifaxes over Warsaw to drop supplies to Poles fighting the deadliest urban battle in their history. These daring missions operated by RAF, SAAF and Polish 1586 Special Duty squadron meant that the airmen would be forced to fly 2,600 km at night over German occupied territory from the British airbase in Brindisi to Warsaw and back. Without stopping over. Up to 12 hours in the air with some airmen just managing to land back at Brindisi with empty fuel tanks. Many would never return. On 18 September 1944, 110 USAAF B-17s were sent from the UK airfields to Warsaw. However, the fate of Warsaw was almost sealed.

Medal of the Courier from Warsaw Award Gala

Established by the Warsaw Rising Museum, the Medal of the Courier from Warsaw is a distinction awarded in recognition of outstanding contributions to strengthening Poland’s ties with the West, maintaining good Euro-Atlantic relations, and promoting ideas and attitudes close to those of the Warsaw Rising: striving for freedom and independence, as well as building community and democracy. This year, the Medal will be awarded for the third time.

Exhibition “Warsaw Rising 1944” for the Republic of South Africa

The exhibition opens with a quote "We wanted to be free and owe this freedom to nobody" – Jan Stanisław Jankowski’s, Deputy Prime Minister of the Polish Government, statement made on 1 September 1944. These words express the essence of the Warsaw Rising.
